So yesterday (when I started typing it was yesterday) I was at 2 baseball games in the San Francisco Bay Area. And it’s just awesome when you can see two different MLB games in one day. This is the second time I’ve done that. The first was a day game in Cleveland followed by a night game in Pittsburgh. I’m a fan of baseball. I don’t necessarily keep up with names, stats and standings, but I just love to watch games. I have a pretty good understanding of why certain actions are made and it’s all pretty mechanical. Plus it’s a great way to spend a lazy summer afternoon.

Anyway in the middle (really in the latter half) of both games a section of fans started The Wave. The Wave started getting popular when I was first born, and hasn’t died since. And if you can’t tell, I hate it!

The Wave

Reasoning:

1. You didn’t come to the stadium for The Wave. There’s an event of some sort going on.

2. The Wave is disrespectful to the players or performers (The Wave isn’t limited to sporting events.) The crowd is essentially saying the game is boring and we aren’t paying attention any more. **Note how The Wave will die if something interesting or exciting will happen in the game. It’s a fact

3. It’s so 80′s. It’s true. The Wave is only fun for kids and people just emerging from their Cold War bunkers.

80's Fashion

On a side note, AT&T Park had a nice gap in the stands in right field that acted as a Wave buffer. ”Wave People” have a hard time not following the crowd and when the crowd ends, so does The Wave. Hopefully more stadiums will have a similar buffer design in the future.

AT&T Park
